Large format black & white scanners went
from $120,000 in 1985 down to under $10,000 in 1998. Enter Widecom
with its SLC836C combined black & white and color scanner in 1998 and
a new milestone has been set! Currently, the closest price to our
color model is a $26,000 color scanner. With the announcement of a low
priced (under $10K) large format color scanner SLC 936C (36inch wide
format Color Scanner), this allows users who could not afford a
complete color solution (scanner and plotter) to purchase at under
$20,000. We have not even begun to see the true size potential of this
market!
Recent studies continue to show the
unfathomable size of the still growing hard copy, large document
market.
Over 1.75 Billion engineering drawings are currently active in the
USA alone.
Less than 25% of engineering drawings are in some type of digital
form.
The growth rate each year is an additional 26 million engineering
drawings.
75% of the engineering files will be modified on existing hardcopy
using non-CAD equipment (ie…drafting tables, etc…).
But the best opportunity is the following:
Over $75 Billion dollars will be spent this year to maintain paper
drawings!. |
